Course Descriptions:

Mr. Phil Lawson, MTS

Survey & Theology of the Bible

We will do a survey of the entire Bible, using Jeff Cavins’ “Great Adventure Timeline” as a framework.  In the course of this, we will look at the principles the Church offers for correctly interpreting the Word of God.  Furthermore, we will use those principles to guide our interpretation of the Scriptures.  Finally, we will look at various theological themes that prevail throughout the Bible.

Mr. Jason Bunn, MS

Physics:  Aerospace

If you have ever looked at an airplane in flight, watched a balloon soar overhead, or spied a satellite in orbit above the Earth, you may not have known it, but you’ve witnessed an incredible amount of science and engineering coming together to defy gravity.  Physics is the study of our physical world and the laws that define it.  It is an almost limitless field.  Think about all that happens as a balloon rises—gases expand, materials stretch, the lifting force grows and exceeds the downward pull of gravity and flight begins.  During an airplane flight, lift and thrust fight against weight and drag.  In this course, we’ll study some of the principals behind unpowered and powered flight to survey the physics behind them.  If all goes well, we’ll spend much of the second part of the school year designing and constructing our own weather balloon.  With luck, we’ll be able to send a camera into space and return it safely to the Earth.  No prior rocket science experience needed!

Mr. Jason Bunn earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Master of Computer Science degree from Johns Hopkins University.  After graduating, he worked at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space in Sunnyvale, California and the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHUAPL).  Mr. Bunn wrote key components of the flight software for the Contour, Messenger, and New Horizons spacecraft, and participated in several projects for a government sponsor.  In 2005, he relocated to Wisconsin and currently works in the IT Department for Sentry Insurance as a SQL Server Database Administrator. He continues to be interested in the development of manned and unmanned space exploration missions and looks forward to the continued scientific achievements of Cassini, Messenger, and New Horizons.

Cost:  $50 per family, per course.  Fees can be waived due to necessity.
