Children's Eucharistic Adoration at St. Peter Catholic Church

"Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these." Mark 10:14

Do Children Belong at Eucharistic Adoration?

One of the blessed things about spending an hour in adoration is the experience of getting away from all the noise that usually surrounds us. This is why many parents decide that they shouldn't bring young children, who have short attention spans, are kind of wiggly, and don't understand the value of silence, to adoration.

Yet we know that Jesus wants the little children to come to Him. Children do belong at Eucharistic Adoration, but it is probably better if there is a time set aside for them when they won't provide a sweet distraction to the adult adorers. Little children also need help to gain an early understanding of the Real Presence, and guidance to gently keep them focused on Jesus, so they can adore Him in their own way.

A Time for Small Children to Adore Jesus

A holy half-hour for very young children (toddlers and preschool-aged children), with their parents or another adult, is being held on Wednesdays from 11:30 AM - Noon at St. Peter's. Children and adults with them will gather at the foot of the sanctuary to spend time together in guided prayer. The format is adapted from the Children's Adoration apostolate of Fr. Antoine Thomas. We will have a few seconds throughout the half hour for prostrations (where the children are invited to kneel, then bow their foreheads down to the floor, making themselves small before Jesus), easy songs, short prayers, and short times of "silence" during which parents can help focus their child on the Eucharist through use of acitvities, books, or coloring sheets provided. Each holy half-hour will be themed around one of the phrases of the Divine Praises. Read more about children's eucharistic adoration on this parent's blog!
